Digital Lab Africa CALL FOR PROJECTS


DLA CALL FOR PROJECTS 

The Digital Lab Africa call for projects targets artists, producers, designers, start-ups, students in the media and creative industries. The call is open to anyone from Sub-Saharan Africa having an innovative project in 5 categories of multimedia production : web creationvirtual realityvideo game, animation  and digital music.
DLA is looking for projects at initial stage of development, in need of partners and financial support and innovative in terms of narration, content or technologies.

How To Submit a Proposal

Email the following application files (in French or in English) to applications@digilabafrica.com before January 31st, 2019

  • Pitch deck / Presentation document (PDF, PowerPoint or Word) including:
    – project’s overview, concept, statement of intent…
    – development and production schedule, provisional budget, target audience and strategy

  • Visual element and/or research document
    – 
    Storyboard / mood board / graphics / portfolio / screenplay (for web creation, animation or VR projects
    – Game design document (for video game projects)
    – Any preview, pilot or video demo of the project (if available, for all types of projects)

  • A cover letter explaining why you want to be part of the DLA Mentorship & Incubation program (1-page maximum)
  • A resume/curriculum vitae of the applicant and/or description of the company represented
  • A picture (.jpeg) of the applicant

Open Call for New Dimensions VR AR Lab For African Artist



About the New Dimensions Lab
Now in its 3rd year, the New Dimensions Lab brings together diverse African artists to learn Virtual Reality (VR) storytelling from leading industry mentors. The Lab takes place over the course of a week at a private retreat where artists engage in discussions and workshops, and develop their creative projects. Six applicants will be selected to participate. Past mentors have included Jessica Brillhart (Google, Vrai Pictures), Jim Chuchu (The Nest Collective), Darren Emerson (VR City), Selly Raby Kane, Katy Morrison (VRTOV), Oscar Raby (VRTOV), and Ainsley Sutherland.

Electric South fully sponsors travel, accommodation and meals for participants.

Requirements:
Applicants must be: 1. Citizens or permanent residents of an African country 2. Currently living on the African continent 3. Accomplished in an artistic field. Any creative discipline is welcome. Past applicants have experience in: documentary and fiction film, theatre, performance & visual arts, fashion, photography, writing, design, creative technology and game development.

Projects ideas must: 1. Be non-fiction stories. We welcome creative interpretation of documentaries. 2. Use immersive technologies, such as Virtual Reality (VR) or Augmented Reality (AR). This could include 360 film, interactive worlds, animation, hybrid forms, and beyond.

Submission Details
The last day to submit is 31 July 2018. All successful applicants will be notified by 31 August 2018. The Lab will run from 28 October until 3 November 2018 in South Africa.
