Open Call for New Dimensions VR AR Lab For African Artist
About the New Dimensions Lab
Now in its 3rd year, the New Dimensions Lab brings together diverse African artists to learn Virtual Reality (VR) storytelling from leading industry mentors. The Lab takes place over the course of a week at a private retreat where artists engage in discussions and workshops, and develop their creative projects. Six applicants will be selected to participate. Past mentors have included Jessica Brillhart (Google, Vrai Pictures), Jim Chuchu (The Nest Collective), Darren Emerson (VR City), Selly Raby Kane, Katy Morrison (VRTOV), Oscar Raby (VRTOV), and Ainsley Sutherland.
Electric South fully sponsors travel, accommodation and meals for participants.
Requirements:
Applicants must be: 1. Citizens or permanent residents of an African country 2. Currently living on the African continent 3. Accomplished in an artistic field. Any creative discipline is welcome. Past applicants have experience in: documentary and fiction film, theatre, performance & visual arts, fashion, photography, writing, design, creative technology and game development.
Projects ideas must: 1. Be non-fiction stories. We welcome creative interpretation of documentaries. 2. Use immersive technologies, such as Virtual Reality (VR) or Augmented Reality (AR). This could include 360 film, interactive worlds, animation, hybrid forms, and beyond.
Submission Details
The last day to submit is 31 July 2018. All successful applicants will be notified by 31 August 2018. The Lab will run from 28 October until 3 November 2018 in South Africa.

Education is Forbidden
Education is Forbidden is a deeply layered mixed media engagement by Rahima Gambo about the aftermath of conflict, the nature of memory and the echoes and consequences of colonial education in North eastern Nigeria.
Nahima Gambo is documentary photographer and visual artist based in Abuja. Her work has recently been selected to be included in the 11th edition of the African Biennale of Photography.

Bamako Encounters 2015
Organised by the Malian Ministry of Culture and Institut français, the Bamako Encounters is the first and principal international platform dedicated to African photography on the continent. A veritable platform for discovery, exchanges and interaction, the Bamako Encounters are known as a meeting place for African photographers and other art professionals from across the world. It will take place in Bamako, from 31st October to 31st December 2015.

The Executive Director of the Bamako Encounters is Samuel Sidibe, Director of the National Museum of Mali, who has been directing it since 2009.
The Artistic Director of the 10th Bamako Encounters is Bisi Silva, an independent curator and the Director, Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA, Lagos).
The Pan-African Exhibition, resulting from a call for applications and the selection of artists representing all of the African continent and its Diaspora, is part of the Biennial’s central presentation. In 2015 the title is « TELLING TIME »
The call for applications to the Pan-African Exhibition of the 10th edition of the Bamako Encounters is open for African photographers and video artists from 15th January to 30th March 2015.
